Scurvy
Scurvy is a condition where somebody has a deficiency of vitamin C. Cases of scurvy were common in sailors from the 1800s. Sailors on long voyages did not have access to a large supplement of fruits and vegetables, and got scurvy as a result. Vitamin C is necessary for strong blood vessels, healthy skin, gums, teeth, and connective tissue, the production of red blood cells, wound healing, and the absorption of iron from food. The symptoms of scurvy include diarrhea, feelings of paralysis, hemorrhaging, fever, appetite loss, irritability, bleeding gums, loose teeth, and discomfort in legs. To cure scurvy, you must eat fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamin C (this includes citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, mandarins, grape fruits, tangelos, limes, tangerines, etc.).
